What to expect inmy group classesThe classes are suitable for everyone who wants to incorporate a sensitive yoga practice into their lives. Each class starts with careful mobility of the spine, moving out into the hips and shoulders before progressing into deeper postures.
I encourage everyone to move in the way their body allows. So at times it may appear as though everyone is doing something slightly or very differently. It is never about what a posture looks like from the outside, but how it feels. I wont correct but I may suggest things to try. We were not made on a conveyor belt and it’s important that our unique histories, etched into our bodies, are honoured.
There will always be a strong focus on tuning into your breath to help regulate the nervous system, so you can learn breathing practices that will help you find a calmer place within.
You may feel like you’ve worked hard in the class, but in a way that wont stress your nervous system or bring stress to your joints. You will build strength and stabilise your joints, whilst also developing softness where there is tightness and tension.
There will be time given to experience flowing posture sequences and classical postures, together with blended somatic enquiry, developing your felt senses. The yoga sutras and Yamas and Niyamas underpin the foundations of my teaching. I teach what I see, in a very inclusive and sensitive way to ensure a nurturing and safe atmosphere is created in class.
We also laugh and play with postures, exploring movement with curiosity because learning happens when we are at ease and enjoy what we are doing.
